In 2nd grade, my public school thought I was a genius! I was bursting with pride at the plan to skip ahead to 4th grade –- it was the talk of the playground!

Then, bam! I switched to a private school, and they cancelled my star student status. I was told I had to repeat 2nd grade. Seriously? How was that possible?

One pivotal year sparked my mission to blaze a trail for students who learn in their own special way.

So, I set out to prove them wrong.

That year of pain and confusion ignited my mission to support students who learn at their own pace.

As a result, I went on to:

earn my Masters degree in Special Education,
become certified in Crosscultural, Language, and Academic Development, and
achieved Full Professional status as an Educational Therapist.

I've practiced for more than 18 years, and developed the Ascent System for Educational Therapy in the process.

I mastered their multiplication and phonics curriculum on lunch breaks. And stayed in 3rd grade.

I may have won the battle on paper, but it damaged my self-esteem. And, to make matters worse, I felt like I couldn't trust school or my teachers anymore.
